Bookfellers is a book club discovery and rewards platform operated in partnership with Inkspot Publishing and World Privilege Plus. We are committed to protecting your personal data and being transparent about how we use it.   • Where you register or manage a book club, the name of the club and details of the organiser account

  • Information about how you found us and how you navigate the site

Information from third parties

Where you access Bookfellers through a partner organisation or affiliate, we may receive basic account information to facilitate your access. We also receive information from affiliate partners such as Bookshop.org, Waterstones, Libro.fm and Kobo when you make purchases through our platform links.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To create and manage your Bookfellers account
  • To create and manage book club accounts registered on the platform
  • To personalise your experience and recommend relevant book clubs and titles
  • To facilitate purchases, rewards and affiliate transactions
  • To operate the community section, including peer to peer book sales
  • To send you relevant updates, newsletters and platform notifications (where you have opted in)
  • To respond to your enquiries and provide customer support
  • To improve and develop our platform and services
  • To comply with our legal obligations

4. Our Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following legal grounds:

  • Contract: processing is necessary to provide you with the Bookfellers service
  • Legitimate interests: to improve our platform, prevent fraud and operate the community section safely
  • Consent: where you have opted in to marketing communications or optional features
  • Legal obligation: where we are required to process data to comply with the law

5. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share your information with:

  • Inkspot Publishing, our platform partner, for the purposes of operating Bookfellers
  • Affiliate partners such as Bookshop.org, Waterstones, Libro.fm and Kobo where you make a purchase through our platform
  • Technology and hosting providers who support the operation of our platform
  • Other members, but only information you choose to make visible in the community section
  • Book club organisers, but only basic membership information necessary to manage your club participation, and only where you have joined a club through the platform
  • Law enforcement or regulatory bodies where we are legally required to do so

6. Book Club Organisers and Member Data

Where you are a book club organiser using Bookfellers, please be aware of the following:

  • You will have access to certain information about members who join your club through the platform, limited to what is necessary to manage club membership and communications
  • You must not use member data for any purpose other than managing your club on the Bookfellers platform
  • You must not share, sell or otherwise disclose member data to any third party
  • If you close your club account or step down as organiser, you must not retain any member data collected through the platform

Bookfellers remains the data controller for all member personal data at all times. Club organisers act only as recipients of limited data for club management purposes and do not become data controllers in their own right by virtue of their use of the platform.

7. Community Section and Peer to Peer Transactions

Where you use the Bookfellers community to buy or sell books with other members, please be aware that any information you include in your listing or messages to other members will be visible to them. We recommend you do not share personal contact details such as your home address or phone number through the platform. Please use secure messaging tools for all communications.

Bookfellers is not a party to any transaction between members and is not responsible for the accuracy of listings, condition of books, or the conduct of buyers or sellers. Please see our Community Marketplace Terms below for further information.

8. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the platform, remember your preferences and understand how you use our site. You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings or our cookie consent tool. For more detail please see our Cookie Policy.

9. How Long We Keep Your Data

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. If you close your account, we will retain certain data for a period of up to six years to comply with our legal and financial obligations, after which it will be securely deleted.

Where a book club account is closed, we will notify club members and allow a reasonable period for members to retrieve any content they have contributed before deleting club data.

10. Your Rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data in certain circumstances
  • Object to or restrict our processing of your data
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format
