When seven-year-old Jedza witnesses the tragic death of his closest childhood friend in a train accident in his hometown of Miner's Drift, he becomes convinced that his life is haunted. Now in his mid-twenties, Jedza is a struggling electrician who moves to Harare in the hope of escaping the darkness and superstitions of the small town. Instead, in the shadowy atmosphere of the Avenues, where mysterious pools of water rise beneath musasa trees, he is haunted by the disappearance of his sister and memories of ancestral spirits, the shape-shifting power of the njuzu and a vengeful ngozi. To move forward, Jedza must stop running from the past and confront the trauma that has shaped his life.
