This anthology of short stories has been compiled primarily to meet the needs of first-year university students. The stories range from mid-nineteenth century to contemporary examples and represent the best in the British, European, American and South African traditions. The anthology is not bound to any particular theme, locality or point of view. It introduces students to various types of short story: humorous, mystery, detective, children's stories, etc.
