This work describes Bettina Brentano-von Arnim's controversial views on gender, politics and language theory in the context of revolutionary cultural, philosophical and political movements around 1848. An admirer of Goethe, Brentano-von Arnim (1785-1859) has been rediscovered by German feminists.
