Trapped in a time warp, the town of Vlenterhoek has not yet caught up with the New South Africa. 'Transformation' had wound its way around the country, taking small detours, traveling along bumpy routes on the slow rutted tracks of the platteland. It has not yet reached Vlenterhoek. Then three things happen: Leah Hopkins decided to return to her home town of Vlenterhoek after half a lifetime of emancipation in Canada; a film company decides to use the town for the making of an extravagant TV commercial; and an international company decides to build a resort at the site of the town's mineral water springs. The community is forced to react to this triad of events and in the process discovers that 'transformation' is not all bad.
