Bullard, based in Colchester, is an unpretentious yet thoroughly professional composer of choral pieces in the mainstream traditions of English music. His work can have zest and zip, as in the syncopated, offbeat rhythms of the carol Follow the Star! although its companion piece, the more contemplative Hill-side Carol, is perhaps more characteristic.
