This novel is about the friendship between two young boys growing up in Scotland in the 1970s. Derrick and Gal are best friends. Derrick's Da is sick, so he sets out with Gal to get his Da a Moorhen's egg. All that stands in their way are their fears, and Mad Mackenzie, who's escaped from Borstal.
