In 1703 a great gale ravaged England. Ships were driven ashore, slates were torn from roofs, and many Londoners were killed. Joan Fletcher, wife of ironmonger Alan Fletcher, seems to be one of the victims - but the savage blow which split her head open points to more suspicious circumstances.
