There's something endlessly fascinating about how Melville turns a whaling voyage into a meditation on obsession, fate and the limits of human will. Ahab isn't just chasing a whale, he's chasing meaning in a universe that refuses to give him any, and that's what makes the story feel so unsettling even today.
Not quite what I expected, but still a worthwhile read.
A bit slow to start but builds to an incredible conclusion.
Thought-provoking and deeply human in every way.
Exceptional prose and a gripping narrative throughout.
A powerful and moving story that stayed with me long after finishing.
One of the best books I have ever read. Highly recommend.
Beautifully written with unforgettable characters.
An absolute masterpiece. Every page was a revelation.
