After six months nursing in the Spanish Civil War, Susan is relieved to set foot on British soil again, with a young Spanish woman, Chichu who has lost her family. With the outbreak of World War II, Chichu is interned and Susan must turn to the untrustworthy Spanish War veteran, Aaron Maichin.
