The textbook not only presents the individual pedagogical approaches, but above all shows the connections in pedagogical thinking. Much of what we think is right today was thought a hundred years ago. Some of what we think is new today has been tried more consistently in previous reform projects. It is important to know where things come from, how they were and are embedded in society. Many pedagogical ideas that were not originally aimed at early childhood are worth examining for this area.
