The traditional melody is very simple and has the feel of a lullaby, but in true Latin American style is set at a rousing tempo, with richly coloured harmonies to suit the style. The central section contrasts with the rest as it is sung a cappella and set slower with rubato, allowing one to indulge in its chromaticism . . .
